Printing on Flex™ and AIR™ can be difficult to get to grips with!

While doing a proof of concept for an application I am developing I had to see if the type of reports we needed would be possible. The reports would be local and be fairly easy to create tabular style reports in-line with our application. The example below TS-LEDGER is an AIR application that provides screen preview, portrait and landscape reports and output to printer or PDF.

The example is free to use in your applications - there is no guarantee as to it’s suitability for your use. It is a report creator NOT a report engine like FlexReport.

If you do use it, a mention would be appreciated.

My background is Visual Studio C#, so please don’t be too cruel about my code. I’m still learning a lot about Actionscript and it’s asynchronous foibles! There is almost no error checking also I have purposefully not broken things down into separate classes and libraries so you can provide reports with your application, a preview screen and a document file. I think new users may understand this better before developing their own libraries.

Finally I’d just like to say I love what Adobe have done with Flex and AIR! As a desktop developer I’ve held back from creating integrated desktop/web applications because of the separate tool bases. Now with Flex & AIR the RIA applications we’ve dreamt' of are now possible.

Many members of the Flex community have helped me, here are just a few.
